We accomplish this by increasing the level of collaboration among existing school districts, universities, government agencies, businesses, healthcare organizations and a host of community-based nonprofits.

Animal Health Corridor

Stretching from Columbia, Missouri, in the east to Manhattan, Kansas, in the west and northwards to St. Joseph, Missouri, companies in the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor generate 56% of all worldwide animal health research, diagnostic services, and pet food sales.  Corporations within the area work together, bringing the region numerous collaborative research opportunities and specialized education initiatives that attract and retain the highly skilled workforce necessary to maintain a truly unique level of bioscience excellence.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement gives young people the knowledge and skills they need to direct their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. Volunteers from local businesses work in classrooms, providing relevant, hands-on experiences.  Junior Achievement helps students develop comprehensive financial literacies, well-rounded skillsets to benefit their future careers, and helps spark their creativity to encourage future entrepreneurship.

The Topeka Community Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life in Topeka and Shawnee County since 1983.  Their emphasis on active partnerships with donors and others have fostered positive changes through highly effective charitable giving.  The Foundation manages hundreds of charitable funds, and prides itself on empowering ordinary people to make extraordinary commitments to others in our community.

Topeka Public Schools engage students in the highest possible quality education, prepare young people for lives of responsible, productive citizenship and inspire intellectual excellence for a lifetime.  They do this, for example, by promoting education as an active process in which students utilize both hands-on and minds-on learning experiences.  The district also puts a premium on motivational learning, giving students goals and ensuring that they have every opportunity to achieve successful outcomes.

 

 

Washburn University

Washburn University is a public institution with more than 6,900 students, over 1,000 faculty and staff, and more than 200 academic programs.  The institution also provides programs for learners of all ages and from all socio-economic sectors of the community.  For example, Washburn hosts tuition-free community programming for adults over the age of 60 who are excited about lifelong education.  They also offer extracurricular and summer programs for youth in art, athletics and music.  Special career exploration and pre-law programs help young people plan for the future, while History Day, Math Day and Women in Science Day make it fun for children from across the region to learn collaboratively.
